Well done to my buddy Sam Dobbs for gaining a Smiths sports shoes scholorship for his racing in 2009. Well I'm quizzing Sam now about what I should write about him... suffice to say he's blushing away and very embarrased. Sam is a Taupo Intermediate student and a member of my (and Robyns') swim squad at the pool and an up and coming triathlete showing lot's of promise for the future. It has been awesome getting involved with these kids and hopfully inspiring them to achieve in their chosen sport. We have been out on our mountain bikes busting some moves on Retro, Outback, Coaster, and even the seasaw... Craters rocks!! Recently Sam was part of my support crew for Motu where he injected so much enthusiasm to the team it really reminded me of why we do this sport... all for the passion and fun, good times. Well done to Nicole Van Der Kay for also gaining a Smiths scholorship, this girl is a wicked runner for a 12 year old and I have no doubt she will be a national champ at senior level one day. We have been out to Huka falls and back a few times and this girl can tick along at 4min/km with no trouble... pretty impressive for someone so young. She also won the first 3:9:3 contact tri in Rotorua this year as a senior!! it was awesome to be there to witness it... what a star.
